Are you ready for Surf Weekend?
No, the Governor has not issued a proclamation. At Live for Jersey Shore, we’re dubbing it Surf Weekend, because today and tomorrow will feature two fun surf related events.
I’ve mapped it out for you.

Johnny, I know how you feel. (photo graciously borrowed from Life.com via Google images)
It’s September. This churns my stomach. If I were still in high school, I’d be despondent to be back in my Catholic school uniform; in college, I’d be thrilled to be back on campus. But alas, commencement called for me quite a bit ago so nothing changes. Work still comes every Monday, but soon enough there will be no beach time dominating my weekends. Ugh.
But fret not. Aside from the fact that we still have Labor Day Weekend (a beautiful – but somber – thing unto itself), early fall at the Jersey Shore brings gorgeous weather, near-deserted watering holes and very fun events. If you’re like me (here for the long haul) or if the unofficial start of autumn brings you to points north or west, September at the Shore is the perfect way to wind down your summer soul and settle in for the fall. Before you get the Labor Day blues, check out these second-weekend-of-September events and you’ll see that it can be just as much of a party as the first.

It's undeniable that this fake palm tree screams "I'm on vacation!" but it's also yelling "Totally tacky!!"
A good 75 percent of the time my family’s boat leaves our dock, the destination is Martell’s Waters Edge – a massive tiki bar accessible by both land and sea on Barnegat Bay’s western shore in Bayville. By car, it would probably take 45 minutes to get to, but a ride aboard the Barrel O’ Monkeys takes a mere 20 minutes.

Be charitable, run, and drink. (Photo credit: The Jersey Shore Running Club)
If you’re still searching for a fun Saturday activity, why not be benevolent, healthy, and indulgent?
Where, you may ask?
Sea Girt. Specifically, The Parker House, the celebrated restaurant/bar/game room, which hosts the annual “Parker House Fun Run,” a two mile jaunt for charity. But, as you may have guessed, it is not your typical race.
Dubbed as “the greatest running party at the Jersey Shore,” afterward, all participants are entitled to a full hour of “all-you-can-drink” Miller Lite beers in both the upstairs and downstairs bars.
Dehydrated and need water?

“Toots” Hibbert brought his legendary and still unique reggae, ska, funky, rockin’ soul stew to a soupy and humid night at the Surf Club on Friday night.

What do you reckon you'll be doing when you're 64?
In keeping with tradition of previous stops at the Surf Club in recent years, Toots And The Maytals packed in a crowd for a typically late starting set, starting after 11:00, and kept the booties moving and grooving for a solid 2+ hours until closing. The late start builds up the anticipation and when they hit the stage, you can help but think the guy should have his own work out tape because he’s 64 and just… doesn’t … stop.
