Surfin’ Stuff This Weekend: Night Ridin’ at Joey Harrison’s and Asbury Park Surf Film Fest

Just poking around on the interwebs and my twitter machine informs me there’s some cool sounding surf events over the weekend.

Naturally, the weather is supposed to suck, so you might as well get wet, crazy and loud with the self proclaimed “mouchebags” competing in a night time “Tow-At” surf contest. That’s Friday night at “Planet Surf” at Joey Harrison’s Surf Club in Ortley. You need to read this post by John Cohen on ESPN’s surfing blog for more info an a few laughs at his take on the Planet Surf crowd. Big airs and big hairs! WOOT
Our hopes and dreams all rest with The Surf Club redeeming itself with some quality Friday night entertainment before they turn over the keys to the cheese for the rest of the weekend. Samantha Ronson was a good start, and this looks solid.
While recovering on Saturday, come lay low and watch some surf flicks in Asbury Park. the Asbury Park Film Initiative presents the Second Annual Asbury Park Surf Film Festival.
Saturday and Sunday at the Paramount Theatre you can catch A Fly in the Champaign, My Eyes Won’t Dry 2, and Through the Looking Glass. The New York Surf Film Festival will provide Musica Surfica and the shorts — Pulp, Poo and Perfection, Kooks, and Surf Magazines Don’t Talk About Lapsed Catholics on Sunday, and ther are surf lessons for your Dad on Sunday through Lightly Salted Surf Mercado.
The whole event benefits The Surfrider Foundation. More info on APBoardwalk.com site, and another from ESPN Surf Blog, which I’m digging for all the Jersey Shore coverage.
Peace!
